Tone ('07 Bat) throws "no-no" for Red Dragons
OSWEGO, N.Y. - Sophomore Matt Tone (Rochester/Irondequoit) threw the 16th no-hitter in school history and what is believed to be the first nine-inning no-hitter by a Cortland pitcher in 44 years as the Red Dragons defeated Oswego, 11-0, in the first game of a SUNYAC doubleheader.
Tone struck out a career-high 13 batters while pitching the first Cortland no-hitter since a combined, shortened effort by Justin Mattes and Jimmy Dougher in 2006 versus Christopher Newport. The only previous nine-inning no-hitter in school history is believed to be a perfect game by Bob Reggio versus Mansfield in 1964. The remaining no-hitters were seven-inning performances.
Tone walked five batters and hit one for the Lakers' only baserunners.
Matt led the '07 Riverbat staff with a 1.71 ERA over 31-2/3 innings pitched.
